With the release of the 1.4.0 update, anyone who owns it now has access to the Linux version on Steam. So anyone wanting to make simple RPG games on Linux has access to a highly rated tool.
I know a lot of people prefer their open source tools, but these tools are popular and having them on Linux means the possibility of more people switching without giving up their favourite applications. Hopefully we will see more developers come over to Linux thanks to tools like this.
What makes this application so popular is that it takes away a lot of the more complex parts of making an RPG game, so it's an especially useful tool if you have great artistic skills, but perhaps not so great programming skills. It opens up making games for more people.
RPG Maker MV can now export to:
- Windows/EXE
- MacOSX/APP
- Android/APK
- iOS/IPA
- HTML 5 for Web Browsers
- Linux
That's a pretty decent list!Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
Date: Feb 18, 2013. This script grants you the ability to export the scripts from your current project to file. It also allows you to import them from file back into your project, including new scripts. I created this script because I needed the ability to merge multiple peoples project script edits back together into a single.
Installation guide:
Before installing RPGM VX Ace, make sure to install the following programs:
Wine Stable (the latest version will be automatically installed), follow the steps below.
If you have any other previous versions of Wine, you must uninstall them because there are known incompatibility between the Wine Meta Package (available in Linux Software Manager) and Wine Stable 3.0.1.
To uninstall previous versions of Wine, you can do it directly from the Software Manager by selecting REMOVE. There are several packages and libraries connected to Wine so if you want to be 100% sure they don’t conflict with Wine Stable, just remove all of them (Mono, Wine 1.6. Gecko…). Don’t worry, Wine Stable will reinstall everything that is needed.

After you have deleted everything open the terminal and type:
~ $ sudo apt autoremove
This action will clean up all packages which are no longer connected to your system.
Next, update your system to prepare for the next installation
~ $ sudo apt-get update
Now that everything is ready, let’s proceed with the installation of Wine Stable: If your system is 64 bit, you need to enable the 32 bit architecture.
Now, carefully follow the instructions given in WineHQ website for your particular OS then come back here (pay attention to your OS version):
If too complicated, see the example below:
Download and add the repository key:
Ubuntu 16.04 Linux Mint 18.x | sudo apt-add-repository ‘deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ xenial main’ |
Update packages:
As there have been a couple of fixable bugs in the past. Before installing RPGM VX Ace, you have to install Winetricks. You can install Winetricks directly from the Software Manager or you can do it via terminal.
~ $ sudo apt-get install winetricks
As usual, update the cache:
~ $ sudo apt-get update
Now, it’s time to fix the bugs I mentioned before:
- Open Winetricks
- Select the default Wineprefix
- Install a Windows DLL or Component (If this is not present in the menu, select Install Application, OK, then cancel and you will see it listed as first choice).
- Select Quartz.dll
Confirm with OK, close Winetricks, open the terminal again and type:
~ $ winecfg
The Wine configuration windows will open.
- Select Libraries
- Where there is “New override for library” type quartz
- Edit quartz
- Load order (Native Windows)
- Click OK and Apply
The second bug can also be fixed in the Libraries of Wine configuration:
- Select Libraries
- Where there is “New override for library” type winegstreamer
- Edit winegstreamer
- Load order (Disable)
- Click OK and Apply
